ACOBA-EC Hosts Annual East Coast Cricket Festival.
TOPIC : 4th ANNUAL EAST COAST CRICKET FESTIVAL
The 4th Annual East Coast Cricket Festival was held on June 13th at the Tall Timbers Park in South Brunswick , New Jersey with the participation old boys' cricket team representing Ananda College , Nalanda College , Royal College , St. Thomas ' College, Trinity College , Maris Stella College , St. Peter's College and St. Joseph 's College.
The event organized by the Ananda College Old Boys’ Association East Coast Chapter has undoubtedly established itself as the biggest and most looked forward to Sri Lankan community event in the East Coast of USA. This year's was once again a grand success with more than 300 guests attending from all East Coast States of USA . They were entertained by "Papara" bmusic from a live band; food from half a dozen stalls selling everything from lumpris and Hydrabadi biryani, to faluda and energy drinks; and of course great competitive cricket matches.
The tournament was supposed to consist of 15 five over contests, but Unfortunately due to rain, only 11 of them could be completed. The tournament director Mr. Suresh Chandra, Deputy Ambassador to the UN in New York , upon consultation with all the captains decided not to declare a winner for this year's tournament.
The tournament gives area social organizations an opportunity to showcase further their missions. This year the SLAMANA, the Sri Lankan medical doctors association, organized free medical checkups. The Seva Vanitha unit for Ranaviru Children had a stall to raise funds to sponsor children of injured or deceased soldiers. The "Future Sri Lanka" group stall raised money to support the internally displaced persons from the north and east of Sri Lanka . Both these organizations raised significant money thru the generosity of the tri state participants for their causes.
