an unbeaten century was hit by gamini chandrakumara for nalanda in their 73 rd battle of the maroons against ananda which ended in a draw at ssc grounds yesterday .chandrakumara the right hand middle order batsman who also toured new zealand with the national under 19 team for the world cup tournament once again proved his ability in this big match which was the only highlight in this drawn game .
after anandians scored 229 for 8 wickets in their first innings nalanda 57 for no loss overnight made 289 for five wickets with chandrakumara leading the way with a fine century which came in 145 balls and 170 minutes with eleven fours . he reached his century with a boundary off eashan abeysinghe in the last over before tea and nalanda declared their innings at tea break . at close ananda made 104 for two wickets in 37 overs with opener dumidu kularatne making an unbeaten 52 with four fours . he also added 51 runs with mahela udawatte 24 with four fours for the first wicket.
earlier nalanda openers malinga gamarachchi (43) and lasitha amarasuriya (25) made a good foundation with a 57 runs stand . gamarachchi further added a 51 runs stand with sakura wijetunga (37 with four fours and a six ) for the second wicket .skipper mevan dunusinghe (32) with five fours and chandrakumara made a 47 runs stand for the fourth wicket . chandrakumara together with madura warnapura played with more confidence and associated in an unbroken 104 runs fifth wicket stand which was the best partnership of the innings . warnapura made 33 with three fours which came in 108 minutes .
