Details:
In this high-tech time the best and cheapest communication method is "e-mail". This requires an "Internet connection" to Ananda College. To provide this necessary facility to college we must first have:
2). To upgrade the computer facility to keep in touch with the current technology.
Details:
At this time Ananda College has a computer room with about 10 or so 486 computers, few of them running Windows 3.1 and others running DOS. All the other computers which were local donations are 386, 286 and some 8088. Several machines in the computer r oom were not working or nobody wants to use them. We can donate or raise money to buy new state of the art computers.
3). To give more access to "Information Super Highway"
Details:
Giving Internet connections to a high school with out correct supervision is very dangerous. On the other hand they have more information's on their finger tips about science, technology and other world affairs. With proper guidance, supervision and rest riction we may be able to satisfy both. To prevent abusing this privilege we have to enforce strict rules regarding the Internet use. Only a "Local Area Network" (LAN) will make it happen. Again your generous donations can make this happen.
4). To give more hands on training on "Computers and Programs".
Details:
Writing programs and working with different computer operating systems will give a little boost to all students before they get out from Ananda. Whether they continue education in a university or start their career after school, they can get a good head start with this hands-on experience. Let us bring out the untapped, hidden talents in our school to the limelight.
5). To arrange lecture series on current hot topics at Ananda.
Details:
Most of the AnandaNet members are affiliated with foreign universities, medical schools or industries. Our day to day experience in our fields may be very helpful for our young friends at Ananda. Please do not hesitate to give a public lecture at Ananda college on your working experience. Especially, information on technology, health issues, current trends in science are some that can be useful to them and can motivate them to excel. Before you plan to visit Sri Lanka next time please let us know, so we can arrange a talk at Ananda. This needs only your TIME.
6). To add current and advanced books to the Ananda College library.
Details:
Collect new or used books and send to Ananda library.
7). Scholarship Trust by ACAA-Canada
Details:
The Trust provides Financial Assistance to promising Anandians to help in their post secondary education. Each scholarship holder receives Rs 10,000 per annum throughout the normal term of his course of study. Students who have studied at least two years at Ananda and are currently doing full time post secondary courses are welcome to apply.
It was decided to increase the scholarship award to two students per year (presently awarded to one post graduate student). The additional award is open to a student in any field (Academic, Sports etc) who excels in same in that year. Applications will be called from students (who meet the selection criteria ) who will have to be approved by the school authorities.
8). Western Band Fund by ACAA-Canada
Details:
In the current year ACAA has committed to raise funds to support the school in their quest to purchase basic musical instruments for the school Western Band. Estimate cost is $15,000 US of which approximately a tenth have already being pledged by ACAA from proceeds of the 1996 Dinner Dance. ACAA would be pleased to hear from anyone willing to make a contribution in any form, however small it may be.
$2000/- will be handed over to the school authorities to be used towards purchasing musical equipment for the Western Band.
